Psychiatrist
Description
About Stem Health
Stem Health is reimagining the primary care experience for individuals who want a more thoughtful relationship with their health. Physician-led and membership-based, we combine medical excellence with the warmth of hospitality anchored in a beautifully designed flagship clinic at First Canadian Place, opening September 2026. Our care model is relationship-based, data-informed, and built on time, trust, and exceptional service.
Position Summary
As our Psychiatrist, you will be the specialist anchor for mental health within Stem Health’s membership model. You will provide expert psychiatric assessments and consultations for our members, formulate evidence-based treatment plans, and work hand-in-hand with our primary care physicians to deliver integrated, continuous mental health support.
Reporting to the Medical Director, you will join the clinical team when the clinic opens in the fall of 2026 working on-site. It is a relationship-based practice where depth of care, thoughtful documentation, and genuine collaboration with the wider clinical team matter as much as clinical expertise.
Key Responsibilities
Psychiatric assessment and diagnosis
- Conduct comprehensive specialist psychiatric assessments and consultations for Stem Health members, including new patient evaluations and follow-up reviews.
- Diagnose mental health conditions across the spectrum of adult psychiatry using DSM criteria and validated clinical tools (e.g., MADRS, YMRS, PHQ-9, GAD-7).
- Interpret diagnostic results, collateral history, and prior records to build a full clinical picture before forming a management plan.
Treatment planning and medication management
- Formulate individualized, evidence-based treatment plans incorporating pharmacological management and psychotherapy as appropriate.
- Prescribe and manage psychiatric medications, monitoring efficacy, tolerability, and side effects with regular follow-up.
- Adjust treatment approaches based on patient progress, emerging evidence, and clinical judgment.
- Provide psychotherapy where within scope and clinically indicated, or coordinate with psychology and allied health for therapeutic support.
Collaboration and care coordination
- Work closely with Stem Health’s primary care physicians, Medical Director, clinical team leads, and allied health professionals to deliver cohesive, integrated care.
- Participate in case consultations and provide specialist guidance on complex presentations.
- Ensure warm, well-communicated handoffs and continuity of care between psychiatry and the broader clinical team.
- Contribute to the development of shared clinical protocols and care pathways for mental health within the Stem Health model.
Documentation and clinical standards
- Complete timely, high-quality documentation of all assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and correspondence in the clinic’s EMR system (Telus CHR).
- Maintain documentation standards consistent with CPSO requirements and Stem Health’s internal clinical policies.
- Support informed consent processes and ensure patient privacy compliance in line with PHIPA.
Patient experience
- Deliver psychiatric care in a manner consistent with Stem Health’s premium, relationship-based model unhurried, thorough, and deeply respectful of patient autonomy.
- Manage patient concerns with professionalism and clear communication, escalating complex situations to the Medical Director as appropriate.
Qualifications & Experience
- MD and completion of a Royal College-accredited residency in Psychiatry (FRCPC designation required).
- Active, unrestricted registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).
- Certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Psychiatry.
- Demonstrated competency in pharmacological management of adult psychiatric conditions.
- Psychotherapy training and competency CBT, supportive, or other evidence-based modality preferred.
- Experience in outpatient adult psychiatry; familiarity with preventive or wellness-focused psychiatry is a strong differentiator.
- Proficiency with EMR systems and validated clinical assessment tools (MADRS, YMRS, and similar).
- Comfort with secure telepsychiatry platforms is an asset.
- Thoughtful, evidence-based clinical approach with strong written documentation skills.
- Genuine interest in integrated, proactive primary care and the members who choose it.
Ideal Candidate
You are a psychiatrist who practices with precision and genuine curiosity about your patients as whole people. You are comfortable operating as a specialist within a broader primary care team, and you value the kind of continuity and depth that a membership-based model makes possible. You write well, communicate clearly with colleagues, and bring your clinical reasoning to the table in ways that elevate the care of every patient you touch not just the ones on your schedule.
Why Join Stem Health
- Join a physician-led, membership-based practice at its founding moment — the flagship clinic opens at First Canadian Place in September 2026.
- Practice psychiatry the way it should be practiced: enough time per patient, a thoughtful clinical team around you, and a care model built on trust.
- Collaborate with primary care physicians, allied health, and clinical leadership who are genuinely invested in integrated mental health care.
- A focused schedule that fits alongside other commitments.
