Position Summary
As Medical Director, you are the clinical backbone of Stem Health the physician leader who sets the standard for how care is delivered, who oversees clinical quality and safety, and who ensures our model earns the trust of patients, regulators, and the broader medical community.
Reporting to the CEO, you will shape clinical protocols, lead and develop our physician and clinical team, and serve as the bridge between medical excellence and business strategy. You will ensure everything we do meets or exceeds the standards of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) while building a care model that justifies and elevates the private pay experience.
This is a senior, hands-on role in an early-stage environment. You will be defining what clinical excellence looks like at Stem Health and building the systems to sustain it.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical governance and quality
- Establish and maintain clinical protocols, treatment guidelines, and standard operating procedures across all care delivered at Stem Health.
- Implement quality improvement initiatives and monitor clinical outcomes including patient safety indicators, satisfaction, and complication rates.
- Review and approve all treatment protocols and clinical pathways before they go live.
Medical staff leadership
- Recruit, credential, and supervise physicians, nurse practitioners, and other clinical staff.
- Lead continuing medical education, peer review, and performance evaluations.
- Develop training programs for new treatments, technologies, and clinical protocols.
- Serve as a visible role model for clinical excellence and patient-centred care.
Patient safety and risk management
- Develop and implement medical risk management strategies; oversee incident reporting and resolution processes.
- Review complex cases and provide clinical guidance to the team.
- Handle patient complaints related to medical care and ensure continuity and appropriate follow-up.
- Work with legal and insurance partners to reduce malpractice exposure.
Regulatory and compliance oversight
- Ensure full compliance with CPSO requirements, Health Canada regulations, and all applicable provincial healthcare standards.
- Serve as the designated medical lead for regulatory inspections and audits.
- Oversee informed consent processes, documentation standards, and patient privacy compliance.
Strategic and clinical input
- Partner with the CEO to shape the clinical vision and service strategy of Stem Health.
- Evaluate new technologies, treatment modalities, and potential specialties or care models from a clinical and business perspective.
- Advise on pricing decisions for medical services and assess the clinical ROI of new offerings.
- Develop premium service protocols that reflect and justify the private pay experience.
External relations and clinical credibility
- Act as a public-facing clinical voice for Stem Health important for patient trust, insurer relationships, and investor confidence.
- Build and maintain relationships with hospitals, physician groups, and referral networks.
- May participate in clinical research, publications, or speaking engagements to advance Stem Health’s medical reputation.
Qualifications & Experience
- Active medical license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).
- Minimum 7–10 years of clinical experience, with at least 2–3 years in a leadership or administrative role.
- Experience in clinical operations, private practice, or health system leadership.
- Deep familiarity with CPSO standards, Ontario healthcare regulations, and privacy compliance (PHIPA).
- Track record of building clinical teams, leading peer review, and driving quality improvement.
- Knowledge of private healthcare operations and premium care models is a strong asset.
- Comfortable operating at the intersection of medicine and business you can speak to both clinicians and executives.
- Genuine belief in proactive, relationship-based primary care.
