Phlebotomist

Description

About Stem Health
Stem Health is reimagining the primary care experience for individuals who want a more thoughtful relationship with their health. Physician-led and membership-based, we combine medical excellence with the warmth of hospitality  anchored in a beautifully designed flagship clinic at First Canadian Place, opening September 2026. Our care model is relationship-based, data-informed, and built on time, trust, and exceptional service.

Position Summary
As our Phlebotomist, you are often the first clinical touchpoint in a member's visit  and that first impression matters. You set the tone with a calm presence, technical precision, and a level of care that makes even the most anxious member feel at ease.

Reporting to the Clinical Operations Lead, you will be responsible for the safe, accurate, and comfortable collection of blood and other specimens as part of Stem Health's preventive and diagnostic care programs. This role is ideal for someone who brings hands-on expertise, strong interpersonal instincts, and experience in private healthcare, fertility, or boutique wellness settings; someone who understands that in a relationship-based practice, how care is delivered matters as much as the care itself.

Key Responsibilities
Specimen collection and client care
  • Perform venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures with technical accuracy and client comfort as the dual priority.
  • Prepare members for blood draws by reviewing the procedure, responding to questions with clarity and empathy, and managing any anxiety with calm professionalism.
  • Monitor members post-procedure and manage any adverse reactions or complications swiftly and appropriately.
  • Maintain the highest standard of comfort-focused technique  including experience with challenging veins and high-touch, anxiety-conscious settings.
Specimen handling and quality control
  • Ensure proper labeling, handling, and preparation of specimens for transport and laboratory analysis.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked phlebotomy area in accordance with infection control protocols and clinic standards.
  • Support quality control processes and contribute to ongoing improvements in diagnostic workflows and the member experience.
Documentation and team coordination
  • Document all procedures accurately and promptly in the clinic's electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Collaborate closely with the clinical and operations team to ensure timely, accurate, and seamlessly coordinated diagnostic workflows.
  • Communicate relevant findings or member concerns to the appropriate clinical team members in a timely manner.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Diploma or certification in Phlebotomy or Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA).
  • Certification with the MLPAO or CSMLS is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience  ideally in private healthcare, fertility, or boutique wellness settings.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with venipuncture techniques, including challenging veins and comfort-forward approaches.
  • Strong interpersonal skills calm, professional, and confident in client-facing roles.
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and diagnostic or lab platforms.
  • High standards of infection control and specimen handling, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Genuine alignment with Stem Health's philosophy of proactive, relationship-based, member-centred care.

Ideal Candidate
You are technically precise and personally warm, two qualities that rarely need to be in tension. You understand that for many members, a blood draw is the most vulnerable moment of their clinic visit, and you treat it accordingly. You are meticulous with documentation, proactive in your communication with the team, and take genuine pride in a phlebotomy area that is always ready. You don't just collect specimens, you set the tone for the entire clinical experience.
